Description
Looking for a poem pairing for Greek mythology? Interested in seeing what happens next with Midas and his golden touch? Mrs Midas is a brilliant poem by the UK’s poet laureate, Carol Ann Duffy, and it is one of my all-time favourite poems. Taking the Greek myth of King Midas, Duffy’s poem is from the perspective of the until-now-silent Mrs Midas. In the poem, set in modern times, Midas’s wife reflects on how life has changed since the fateful day Midas gained his magical touch that turned everything into gold. It has both tragedy and humour – students will love making inferences and deductions as they explore this fateful retelling. This poem is recommended for learners aged 14 upwards.
