World Mythology|Hexagonal Thinking

Looking for a way into a culturally-respectful world mythology unit complete with critical thinking skills? Look no further! Read about, and be inspired by, hexagonal thinking – which can be used in ALL subjects – herehere and here.

It’s a great approach for visible thinkingmetacognition and discussion. Students are engaged for the entire process as they work to justify the connections they’re making in obvious and creative ways.

Suitable for distance learning and can be downloaded to use with PowerPoint.

How This Resource Contributes to Learning

In this activity, students pull myth-related concepts onto the slide canvas and then explain the connections between them, thereby making their thinking visible. The concepts included are fully editable so you can slant your focus any way you choose. Feel free to ‘steal’ this idea for use in your own classroom by producing the template yourself. Alternatively, save time (and sanity!) with this ready-made resource for what I bet is less than the price of your favourite treat!

What’s Included –

  1. A fully-editable Google Slides template that you can share with your students – this can also be downloaded from Google Drive and edited with PPT
  2. Ideas for different ways you can use and re-use this activity before, during and after your myth study
  3. My ongoing support

Get started with World Mythology. This product is digital so students can complete it online individually or collaboratively. If you would like any support with tech or distance learning, get in touch as I am a Certified Google Educator and ready to help. You do not need to make a purchase! I am available on Zoom, Meet, Skype or email: abena@diversityinmind.com

Short on funds? You are welcome to ‘steal’ the idea and create your own, but I can guarantee this resource will save you time fiddling about with Google Slides. I am keeping the price low because I’d rather see teachers creating culturally-sustaining classrooms than falling back on the status quo. Purchasing this time-saver allows me to continue sharing advice and free resources through Diversity in Mind.

*A Google account is needed to edit this product. Links in the downloaded document will take you straight to a digital copy of the file. Then you can edit and print as you see fit!

Tried and Tested

I am used to teaching mixed-ability classes with EAL students and all my students can rise to this challenge, from those who are below to those who are above grade level. I only list materials that have been successful and I always collect feedback from my students to ensure high engagement and rigour.
