This world mythology breakout (escape room) can be completed entirely online and is perfect for distance learning. It contains 5 texts related to pourquoi tales and can be used at any time through a unit. No prior knowledge is needed and it could be used for a sub lesson or standalone activity.
This resource contains:
⏩ 1 original written text explaining what a pourquoi myth is
⏩ 2 original rewritten pourquoi tales from Brazil and Nigeria
⏩ 1 linked video to a Greek pourquoi myth
⏩ 1 original reader’s theatre script of a pourquoi tale from China
⏩ Link to a Google Form breakout to share with your students (self-checking)
⏩ Answer key (just in case)
⏩ Teacher notes
NB: You do not need an answer key for this resource as students can automatically progress when they input the correct answer. However, the answer key is included in case your students need additional support. This has been tried-and-tested with my middle-school students, including EAL and those with learning differences and they all managed to complete it in 45 minutes or less. Your students may take more or less time depending on their reading levels, collaboration, and/or age.
These resources are part of a series that aims to widen your students’ (and perhaps your) familiarity with myths beyond the traditional Greek and Roman ones taught in Western classrooms. While these materials can be used with Greco-Roman stories, they do not start from a particular cultural perspective and are open enough to use with any pantheon or selection of texts. (If you are looking for specifically-Western myths, you might want to see the free and paid resources here.) The series in its entirety will provide approaches, activities and myth texts (many of which have been commissioned for this unit). The ‘pick and mix’ approach, guidance and suggestions mean you can design the learning experience that bests suits your students.

Tried and Tested
I am used to teaching mixed-ability classes with EAL students and all my students can rise to this challenge, from those who are below to those who are above grade level. I only list materials that have been successful and I always collect feedback from my students to ensure high engagement and rigour.
