Description

A ready-to-go projectable or printable differentiated lesson to get students developing their reading skills. This article – written at two levels – focuses on zombies in Haiti (which is where they originated). It includes many optional activities making it great for a standalone learning experience, a sub or cover lesson, or to kick off a literacy unit with the theme of zombies! You can switch off your brain because all the thinking and prep is done for you. Perfect for those times when you need more time for grading, planning, supervision, parenting or one of the million tasks teachers juggle every day.

This is included in my ZOMBIE MEGA BUNDLE. Add this nonfiction reading with multiple activities as a supplement or sub lesson.

In this lesson, you have lots of options for your students to complete:

  1. Do a ‘brain dump’ on all they know about zombies
  2. Pre-reading vocabulary activity
  3. Reading nonfiction passage with a graphic organizer
  4. Annotating (with guidance)
  5. Summarizing nonfiction text
  6. Optional 10-point quiz
  7. Create their own inquiry questions for research

BONUS: Link to a short workshop for evaluating online sources. Completely self-contained and ready-to-go…save even more time!

Additionally, you can include the discussion activities and partner-work as a matter of choice.

This complements any of my other zombie resources, including the freebies. Explore my highly-engaging and popular zombie products here.

I am used to teaching mixed-ability classes with EAL students and all my students can rise to this challenge, from those who are below to those who are above grade level. (Please check suitability of the topic for younger students, although I do my best to avoid gory images.) I also use dyslexia-friendly fonts and non-fussy / non-cutesy slide designs for minimal distraction and clear test.

Use this lesson to review persuasive techniques with or without rhetorical appeals.

This product is CCSS-aligned but would complement any speaking skills development.
